This is the 2nd post in the Patio 101 series. Last week, I went through decor ideas to add seating to your outdoor area. If you didn’t catch the post, you can find it here. You’ll snag lots of tips to turn your patio into a relaxing lounge! Today, I’m sharing some patio set up ideas to create an eating area, no matter how small your balcony or terrace.

Small Patio Table Ideas
If you have a small patio with enough space, I would definitely recommend you choose a full table and chair set. Just make sure it’s size-appropriate! This gorgeous table from Wayfair is made from sturdy teak. It boasts curved lines that are quite unusual for outdoor tables (get the chairs here!). It would sit 2 to 4 people without taking up the whole space, so you can even fit in a grill. This 18-inch Cuisinart BBQ grill is the perfect size for small spaces!
An outdoor table set will help your patio feel like an extra room for your house. And just like you would indoors, you can use area rugs to visually divide the space. So if you also have a seating area in your small patio, adding an outdoor rug is a great idea to help separate eating and lounging areas.
Have you prioritized other activities on your patio but still want to fit in an eating area? Why not try an outdoor bar table? They’re much narrower than regular dining tables and are visually lighter due to the extra-height. This wooden bar table will bring a Bali vibe to your patio. Pair it with folding chairs or these teal bar stools for a pop of color!
Setting up an Eating Area on a Balcony
Folding Wall Table
Since balconies tend to be long and narrow, having a table and chairs can feel impossible. Don’t lose hope, go the folding way! Folding tables can evoke visions of lackluster camping tables. If that’s what you have in stock, remember a bit of DIY can go a long way to making your current outdoor furniture look better. If you’re looking for a new folding table that packs both function and aesthetic, head over to IKEA to get your hands on this wall table set! Created especially for tiny outdoor spaces, this set folds flat and can be tucked away to free up your balcony.
Boho Floor Table
Whether it’s out of love for the Boho style or out of necessity because the space is so small, a floor table can be the solution to create an all-in-one lounging and eating area on your balcony. Try scattering floor cushions around a fire pit (safety first: don’t forget the fireproof mat). Add a couple of side tables, like this perfectly sized one, to hold your food and drinks. If you have a little more space, set up an outdoor coffee table. Surround it with pillows for a lower-than-usual dining experience!
